: Republic Council on Road Traffic Safety of Republic of Macedonia
: ore than 135,000 people were seriously injured on European roads and more than 26.000 died on the roads in 2015, according to figures published by the European Commission for the first time in April 2016. While the number of deaths on European roads has fallen dramatically over the last decade (from 30.000 in 2011 to 26.000 in 2015), serious injuries have declined at a much slower rate. In Macedonia this figures are alarming and each year the road deaths are increasing, 2016 we had 164 lost life’s on the Macedonian roads (from 130 in 2014 and 144 in 2015).
In line of reducing these figures, European Commission has adopted an ambitious Road Safety Programme which aims to cut road deaths in Europe between 2011 and 2020. Knowing the fact that this problem is also present in the Republic of Macedonia, Republic Council on Road Traffic Safety has started with new intensive approach and standards, which in the line with EU regulations and Programme in order to reach zero lost lives on the Roads.
“Youth for Road Safety” project is a Training course for Youth from all the region and Europe. The need to implement this kind of project is based on holistic approach in solving contemporary social problems, which need to be based on available data, experience but as well on the need of a clear view of potentials and vision of the societies in the future .
“Youth for Road safety” aims at exploring the experience in involving Youth in road safety education, promotion and accident prevention and implementing the acquired knowledge where it has greatest potential for positive impact and is most needed. By this project, RCRTS will like to bring on one place youth from different countries for increasing the awareness for responsible behavior of all participants in the traffic, as well as to contribute in the fight for zero victims on the roads witch is one of the EU priorities.
Topics that will be addressed are related with the safety on the roads, challenges of EU in the road safety, habits of youth drivers and future drivers as traffic participants, sharing best practices in the roads safety of each partner organization (country), visiting institutions in Macedonia, outdoors activities. Creative sustainable results this TC will produced is a new campaign for road traffic safety created by the participants. The campaign will be promoted in all countries of the partner organizations. Example: Fb, alcohol, drugs, speeding, fatigue that influence on the drivers and their behavior on the roads. The aim of the campaign is to be promoted in the country of each partner organization trough the web page of all partners, social media, leaflets, brochures, media etc. public places for youth, schools etc. RCRTS will implemented and ensure sustainability of the results and the campaign from “Youth for Road safety” TC.
This training course is organized for representatives of different European youth organizations, to create campaign for raising the awareness for road traffic safety, in line to reach standards of more developed countries from EU.
